Addictive Relationships & Codependency

You can have addictive, codependent relationships with people, food, chemicals, sex, gambling, shopping, the Internet, exercise . . . you name it and you can become obsessed with it. You put all your energy into trying to control someone or something that you hope will return your physical and emotional passion in equal measure.  But sooner or later, the romance is over and your dependence on that someone or something outside of yourself leaves you empty.  You discover your attachment was delusional, based on what you imagined the relationship to be, not what it really was.

Obsession with anyone or anything outside your own spirit always leads to disappointment because:

Mindful recovery work ties you back to the resources of your own higher consciousness and teaches to rely on yourself first and other people, places and things second.  After all, your relationship with yourself is the most important one you will ever have.
